Helat (heh-LAHT) is the techno project from Stephen Schieberl, an electronic musician, DJ, and creative technologist based outside Portland, Oregon. His path into music began in the 1990s through trackers, vinyl, and the Southern California rave scene, eventually leading to releases and European tours under the name Let's Go Outside. His career included releases on the legendary Soma Records and his own vinyl imprint, Slant Records; and sets at clubs such as fabric, Pressure, Razzmatazz, and Sub Club. After stepping back from a public music career in 2011, he continued producing, DJing, and collecting music privately while building a life around family, technology, and exploration of wild spaces. Helat marks a measured return: focused, physical techno shaped by decades of attention to sound, systems, endurance, and restraint. 2025 saw the release of a series of EPs on Bandcamp, and the debut of the Helat Podcast: a monthly mix series featuring cutting-edge techno. In 2026, the Forever Rising EP was released on Subsensory Records with support from Alarico, Perc, Uncertain, Introversion, Red Rooms, Mathys Lynne, and others.
